Rodent breeding season is upon us, which means the rats here in the Houston metro area will be looking for a place to nest. Your attic makes the perfect spot. Insulation makes perfect nesting material, and your heated attic gives rats shelter from the winter cold. 

Homes in Memorial are really nice, but rats don't discriminate. They'll take your nice, lovely attic as quickly as they'll take the attic in an older home! 

Once rodents start breeding in your home, you're well on your way to an infestation. One rodent can have six to 12 pups in less than a month, and can resume mating just a few days post-pregnancy. Rats produce up to 8 litters in a year! That's an awful lot of rats to spread disease, contaminate your stored food, chew up your wires, and damage your property. 

Each of those rodents can then breed with each other, producing a swarm in no time. Moving indoors even lengthens the mating period, meaning they can continue to mate through the winter. 

So what's the solution?

Don't wait for the rodents to come into your home in the first place.

We can do a pre-emptive check for rodents, locating and sealing holes that could give them access to your home and attic. Don't think you have any holes? You'd be surprised. A rat can squeeze its body into a space the size of a quarter. It takes many hours of careful inspection to be absolutely certain we've eliminated all the potential points of egress. 

We can also do a walk through of your home and yard and point out places where you may be inadvertently attracting rodents. For example, we might suggest covering uncovered garbage cans, or grabbing rodent-proof pet food storage containers. We might encourage you to remove old wood or lumber debris from your yard, or other heavy vegetation. It can also help to trim trees, shrubs, and limbs at least four feet from your home. We might spot a leaky faucet that is providing rats with a ready source of water. 

If we find some rodents are already present, we can trap them for you, and then seal those holes up. We'll get them before the swarm forms!
