How Houston Homes End Up with Multiple Wildlife Infestations

How Houston Homes End Up with Multiple Wildlife Infestations

Usually when Houston homeowners call us, it’s for a single problem. They think they have a raccoon. Or “some” mice. Or “a few” rats.

Usually the picture we find when we inspect the home is quite a bit different and quite a bit worse. When one critter gets cozy, the rest like to move in as well.

Which wildlife infestations occur together?

The most common combination are rats, raccoons, and snakes.

Rats usually enter first. They begin multiplying fast, setting out a veritable buffet for raccoons, who usually follow next. Rats eat your wiring, raccoons eat the rats.

Snakes soon follow, as snakes also feast on rats, and raccoons don’t seem to mind sharing with snakes. For one thing, a raccoon is happy to eat a snake as well. They’re opportunistic eaters, and they like a diverse diet.

How can I tell if I have multiple forms of wildlife in my home?

All the problems of a single species will multiply and get worse.

  • Awful odors
  • Electrical shorts
  • Thumping and running sounds
  • Scritching and scratching sounds
  • Damage to soffit & fascia
  • Flea & tick infestations

We don’t encourage you to go looking for yourself, as that’s a good way to expose yourself to wildlife-borne diseases. We do encourage you to send us up to look. We’re experts and have the protective equipment to make the inspection safe.
